Tips to Selling on Tompee

Listing your item
Keep the title of your item should be simple. State exactly what you are selling. It is also a good idea to include brand names and model/part numbers in the title.

When writing an item description be as thorough as possible. Include measurements, brand, model/part number. Buyers often like to know why you are selling. And be honest. If your item isn’t in perfect condition, say so. Most people won’t mind if they know upfront and it avoids any complaints after the sale.

Also, be sure to list you item in the correct category and sub-categories to ensure the right people can find your item. Items placed in the wrong categories may be deleted or edited by our admin team.

Photos
Take clear pictures. It is best to include a picture of any items that you are advertising. If possible use an uncluttered background. If your item has any imperfections try to photo them.

Price
It is a good idea to spend a some time researching what similar items are going for online and offline. Putting an unrealistic price on an item will put off any potential buyers straight away.
It is a good idea to mention what type of payment methods you are willing to accept. If you are willing to send your item via the post spend a little time looking into postage costs.

Extract from the Chronicle...

Tompee gets mentioned in an article in The Chronicles Crunchbuster campaign:

CANNY Geordies are looking for different ways to boost their incomes and save cash. A recent survey showed 34% of Tynesiders are thinking about earn extra money on top of their main salary.

As part of our Crunchbuster campaign, here are suggestions to make cash in a flash – in some cases literally.

CLEAR OUT YOUR GARAGE OR LOFT

ONE man’s junk is another man’s treasure, so why not clear out that clutter and start making money?

There are many options including websites like Gumtree and eBay, car boot sales and, of course, the classifieds ads in this newspaper!

A new website launched by Alun Pearson and developed by Teesside University - www.Tompee.com - is useful for specialist or unusual items that are unlikely to sell in just one or two weeks.

Alun, 43, thinks his site could be as big as eBay. He said: “I have sold over £700 worth of stuff on the site in the last three weeks. You get 10 spaces for free to list everything from that unused coffee percolator to the cat box that’s been in the garage 10 years. Items are listed for the price you want and stay on the site until you sell them.”

Tompee charges 60p commission for items sold under £10. Commission is charged on a percentage basis for items over £10.
